We wanted to put the following events on everyone’s radar…
Event: The Opening Ceremony
Date: Monday, August 31st
Time: 6:00pm
Place: The El Diabla Cauldron near Fire Convergence in the 6:00 portal
What to bring: Fire tools, fire safeties, and fuel (in an appropriate containment system)
Burning Man is permeated with rituals. From the playful invitation to make angels in the dust at the Greeters Gate when entering Black Rock City, to the quiet introspectiveness of the Temple Burn that signals its ending. These acts answer something deep in us — the longing to belong to a place, to a moment, to each other, and to something larger than ourselves.
One of the most meaningful Rituals is the Opening Ceremony.
On the first Monday of the event, Crimson Rose extracts a flame from the sun to light the fire in “El Diabla”, a special cauldron located in Center Camp. The cauldron’s name represents both the feminine and the masculine energies, blending with the element of fire. The flame will be tended and kept alive, continuing to burn throughout the entire week. It will then be transferred into the Great Circle, slowly illuminating it, and signaling the start of Fire Conclave and the Man Burn.
We’d love for you and your fire group to join in the celebration! Once Crimson has finished the ceremonial lighting of El Diabla, we invite you to join the Luminist Team, Ambient Musicians and Playa Choir and spin some fire with us. Everyone is welcome to step in, dance, spin fire and enjoy the music.
Event: Drum Circle, Mentorship & Fire Spin Jam
Date: Monday, August 31st
Time: 7:00pm
Place: The El Diabla Cauldron near Fire Convergence in the 6:00 portal
What to bring: Drums, fire tools, fire safeties, and fuel (in an appropriate containment system)
Directly after the Opening Ceremony, the Ambient Musicians will be hosting a Drum Circle (which will include drum mentorship) & Fire Spin Jam. So stick around and join the fun!
Event: Burn It
Date: Monday, August 31st
Time: 9:00pm
Place: The Open Playa
What to bring: Fire tools, fire safeties, and fuel (in an appropriate containment system)
Another event you should be aware of that evening is called “Burn It”. There was a time when you could look across the playa and see people spinning fire all over. As times change, renegade fire jams have become less frequent. So, in order to bring more fire to the playa, Burn It was created. Across the playa on Monday evening, wherever you are, we encourage you to find a place and spin some fire!
Event: Tuesday Night Photoshoot! All Fire Artists Welcome
Date: Tuesday, September 1st
Time: 7:00pm – 11:00pm
Place: Meet at 6:00 at the Man
What to bring: Fire tools, safety and fuel. Please wear fire-safe clothing and be prepared to stand perimeter for your fellow participants.
On Tuesday the Fire Conclave’s Great Circle Documentarians will gather to capture portraits and video of YOU fire dancing, spinning and playing in front of the Man! Photos are released in the fall post-event and are a special memento of our time burning in the desert. Images captured are shared as a gift from the Documentarians. They may be used for non-commercial purposes and are shared as art on our social channels.
Event: The Fire Zone!!
Date: Tuesday, September 1st through Friday, September 4th
Time: 8:00pm – 2:00am
Place: Wastelanders 6:00 Portal + Route 66
What to bring: Fire tools, safety and fuel
The Fire Zone, a dedicated space for Conclave Fire Groups, and Individual Fire Performers to perform, gather and share their love of fire dance. It was created with the intention of bringing fire back into Center Camp. Renegade/Fire Spin Jams welcome!

Event: The Shin Forum
Date: Friday, September 4th
Time: 5:00pm
Place: Fire Conclave Convergence
What to bring: A good sense of humor
The Shin Forum is a non-mandatory, informal open discussion between members of the Fire Conclave Council and Shins/Shin Assists. It’s a great way to meet other Shins, talk about successes and challenges you encountered this year, and ask questions about anything Conclave related. Hope to see you all there!
Event: The Shin Jam & Fire Conclave Council Appreciation Party
Date: Friday, September 4th
Time: 8:00pm – 10:00pm
Place: The Wastelanders (6:00 Portal at Route 66 near the Center Camp Canopy)
What to bring: Fire tools if you wish to play
The start of what we hope will become an annual event! We’re inviting all the Shins and Shin Assists together to relax, mingle and spin some fire together. Get to know one another and celebrate our accomplishments this year, while showing appreciation to the Fire Conclave Council for all their hard work in bringing the Fire Conclave to life each year. Bring your props, have a drink at the Tech Noir Bar, and watch live surprise performances by two of our very own Fire Conclave groups! This event is not mandatory, but trust us, you don’t want to miss it.
