Running things in the Great Circle is all about staying connected. Your Radiohead is that vital bridge between your group and Show Ops—they’re the eyes and ears on the ground ensuring everyone stays safe and in the moment from Light up to everyone out..
The Role
Your Radiohead is basically a local branch of Show Operations (Crimson). Armed with a radio and headset, their mission is simple but essential:
- Keep the info flowing between Show Ops and your crew.
- Monitor the channel and catch those critical start/stop cues.
- Be the go-to person if things get sideways during an emergency.
Selecting Your Radiohead
Pick a rockstar for this. You need someone responsible, sharp, and great at talking to people. They should be observant, confident, and ready to step up as an authority figure if an emergency arises.
Rules of Engagement
To keep the circle safe, your Radiohead needs to be 100% dialed into their job.
- One Hat at a Time: They can’t spin fire, act as safety, play music, or take photos while they’re on the radio.
- Shin/Assist Status: They can also be a Shin or Shin Assist, but that “one-role-only” rule still applies.
Requirements
- Get Trained: They must attend the mandatory Radio Training meeting on Saturday, 8/30 at 12:00 p.m. (noon). Don’t forget your I.D. for the gear check-out!
- Gear Return: Once the perimeter drops, bring the radio back to the designated spot. (We’ll give you the location at the meeting.)
- Stay Sharp: Total sobriety is required while on duty on burn day/night.
- Know the Flow: It’s best if they know your show inside out so they can act as a “Stage Manager” and make smart decisions based on Council updates.
