Shin Tip – Episode #15: Events You Don’t Want To Miss

Shin Tip – Episode #15: Events You Don’t Want To Miss

Hi Everyone…

Burning Man is permeated with rituals. From the playful invitation to make angels in the dust that greets every participant who enters Black Rock City, to the Temple Burn that signals its demise. These rites speak of soulful need; the desire to belong to a place, to belong to a time, to belong to one another, and to belong to something that is greater than ourselves.

One of the most meaningful Rituals is the “Opening Ceremony”

On the first Monday of the event, Crimson Rose extracts a flame from the sun to light the fire in “El Diabla”, a special cauldron located in Center Camp. The cauldron’s name represents both the feminine and the masculine energies, blending with the element of fire. The flame will be tended and kept alive, continuing to burn throughout the entire week. It will then be transferred into the Great Circle, slowly illuminating it, and signaling the start of Fire Conclave and the Man Burn.

This year we would like to extend to you (and your fire group members) an invitation to participate in the festivities and spin some fire in celebration with us during the Opening Ceremony. Crimson will light El Diabla, and once lit, participants are invited to dance and spin.

Event: The Opening Ceremony
Date:  Monday, August 29th
Time:  6:00pm
Place: The El Diabla Cauldron near Fire Convergence in the 6:00 portal
What to bring:  Fire tools, fire safeties, and fuel (in an appropriate containment system)

Another Event you should be aware of is called “Burn It”.

There was a time when you could look across the playa and see people spinning fire all over. As times change, renegade fire jams have become less frequent. So, in order to bring more fire to the playa, Burn It was created. Across the playa on Monday evening, wherever you are, we encourage you to find a place and spin some fire!

Event: Burn It
Date:  Monday, August 29th
Time:  9:00pm
Place: The Open Playa (or Tabasco’s Art Project called The REM Cafe)
What to bring:  Fire tools, fire safeties, and fuel (in an appropriate containment system)

The last event we’d like to mention is “The Shin Forum

This non-mandatory, informal open discussion between members of the Fire Conclave Council and Shins/Shin Assists is a great way to meet other Shins, talk about successes and challenges you encountered this year, and ask questions about anything Conclave related. Hope to see you all there!

Event: The Shin Forum
Date:  Friday, Sept. 2nd
Time:  5:00pm
Place: Fire Conclave Convergence
What to bring:  A good sense of humor

Most of the Council are already on playa. See you in the dust soon…and welcome home!

Travel Safe. And remember:  Hit the bunnies, miss the cows.
